SUMI is a product inspired by “Yusan-bako”, the traditional lunch/sweet box from the Tokushima prefecture in the western part of Japan. It could also be used to store accessories and jewelry. The concept of Yusan-bako is a wooden box composed of 3 drawers and a handle, used by children during festivals in March and May, to transport their lunch to the sea or the mountains. While the traditional Yusan-bako required using both hands to open, the unique design of SUMI allows you to open each box with only one hand. With SUMI, Japanese tradition and modern design became one.
